Sometimes I wish I could capture a moment and make it last forever: soaking in the warm ocean with gulls cawing and the smell of salt in my nostrils; the moment when one of my babies smiled at me for the first time; a sunny morning riding my bike, with a gentle breeze at my back and twisted gum trees sighing overhead.
Last weekend was full of those magical, memorable moments. I flew to Melbourne for my friend Megan’s birthday and we shared a wonderful weekend that included perfect weather, breakfast in bed, a good soak in a hot tub and, best of all, a chocoholics tour of Melbourne.
The tour was a birthday gift from Meg’s husband and was a truly great way to spend an afternoon in one of my favourite cities. Having lived in Melbourne for 15 years before moving to Adelaide in 2008, it was great to return as a tourist and wander the historic laneways and streets from one chocolate hit to the next.
While I couldn’t make the weekend last forever, I’m very grateful for the memories made. In years to come I’ll take out those memories, rub off the dust, and smile quietly to myself.
